CHICAGO -- The Cincinnati Reds have reinstated outfielder Ryan Ludwick from the 60-day disabled list before their game Monday against the Chicago Cubs. Hell play left field and bat sixth in the lineup. Ludwick has been out since opening day when he tore cartilage in his right shoulder during a head-first slide into third base against the Los Angeles Angels. Ludwick had shoulder surgery and couldnt swing for three months. During a rehab assignment, Ludwick went 6 for 44, but finished with a four-game hitting streak. Ludwick says coming back has been "a lot tougher than I thought it would be." Also, Cincinnati optioned OF Derrick Robinson to Triple-A Louisville. Robinson was hitting .254 with seven RBIs. In 2012, Ludwick hit .275 with 26 home runs and 80 RBIs. It was a risky strategy, the gymnastics equivalent of a high schl senior applying to just one college in hopes of getting accepted.Locklear is well aware that Karolyi has five women in mind and can name four of them pretty easily. Its that last one, though, that will be tricky. Maybe its Locklear. Its more likely its Kocian. At least, at the moment. And thats where things can get stressful.Its hard because were really gd friends and we both want each other to do their best, Locklear said. Im pretty sure she watches me t. Were competitive with each other but were best friends t.The friendship will be tested this weekend, though in the big picture the decision will hardly impact the Americans chances of standing atop the podium after team finals on Aug. 9.The difference between Locklear and Kocian can be measured in small fractions.
