NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Andre Johnson grabbed the ball going out of bounds on Clevelands second onside kick within two minutes, finally allowing the Tennessee Titans to relax. Its the kind of winning play the Titans simply havent made enough in recent years on their own field.Marcus Mariota threw for 284 yards and three touchdowns, and the Titans held on to beat the Cleveland Browns 28-26 Sunday for their second straight victory -- the first time theyve won consecutive games since the end of the 2013 season.Im not sure in the last couple years that we win that game, Titans coach Mike Mularkey said. This year we found a way to win the game. Obviously, we dont want to make it that close. We did a lot of gd things in that game. The Titans (3-3) matched their win total for all of last season when they went 3-13 and wound up with the No. 1 draft pick overall. They also beat a team other than Jacksonville on their own field for the first time since the 2013 season finale and improved to 3-16 in Nashville .Cleveland (0-6) now is mired in its worst start since 1999 when the Browns lost their first seven as an expansion franchise. Not that the Titans care after losing to the Browns each of the past two seasons, especially with the Browns nearly pulling off another thrilling comeback. They made NFL history here in 2014 rallying from 25 points down to win. This time, they trailed 28-13 when Cody Kessler hit Terrelle Pryor Sr. for a 5-yard TD with 2:07 left, but his pass on the 2-point conversion failed. Browns coach defended his decision to go for 2 so early.I knew at some point I was going to have to take a whack at it, Jackson said. Obviously, we didnt make it, then had to kick and try to get the onside. Gave ourselves a chance at that time. That was what we needed to do.The Browns recovered their first onside kick, and Duke Johnson Jr. scored nine plays later. On their second onside kick, Johnson got his hands on the ball as it went out of bounds for Tennessee. Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright said he wasnt t worried. They onside kicked it to a Hall of Famer, Titans wide receiver Kendall Wright said of Johnson.OPENING DRIVEThe Titans opened the game with a 75-yard drive capped by an 11-yard TD pass from Mariota to Rishard Matthews . That was their first opening TD drive since the season opener of 2015. A big key was Mariota who showed just how fast he is on the Titans first play from scrimmage as he kept the ball and went 41 yards up the Browns sideline.LONGEST TD PASS OF SEASONTennessees longest touchdown pass of the season was a 30-yarder in Week 2 as the Titans rallied to beat Detroit 16-15. Mariota topped that with a 48-yard pass to Kendall Wright in the second quarter. Wright stretched out and dove for the ball, landing around the 5 and sliding near the 2 before getting up and into the end zone as he was hit. Wright finished with eight catches for 133 yards.KESSLER HEALTHYKessler, knocked out of last weeks game with an injured chest, was sacked six times by Tennessee. He threw for a career-high 336 yards and also had two TD passes, both to Pryor.POYER TO HOSPITALBrowns defensive back Jordan Poyer was taken to a Nashville hospital with a lacerated kidney and possible concussion after a being crushed on a block when chasing down Titans returner Marc Mariani when Antonio Andrews hit him, knocking Poyer to the ground with 63 left in the second quarter. Andrews was flagged and penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct on the blindside hit.The hit left Poyer bent over on the grass for a few minutes before he walked to the sideline. He was carted to the locker rm and then to a local hospital. Obviously, we all know thats pretty serious, so well see where he is from there, Jackson said---Online:AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and AP NFL Twitter feed: https://twitter.com/AP-NFLFollow Teresa M. Open champion Justin Rose birdied the first hole with a blind shot he hit to a ft of the pin, and he stayed in front Tuesday until he completed a 4-under 67 for a two-shot lead over Jason Dufner in PGA Grand Slam of Golf. With Formula One champion Nico Rosberg stunning the world by retiring less than a week after winning his first title, ESPN got to thinking -- is this the most shocking retirement in sporting history? So we put our heads together and came up with a shortlist to compete with the German driver. Read through the nominees below then vote for what you think was the most shocking.Sir Alex Ferguson (ftball)On May 8, 2013, with a 13th Premier League title in the bag, Ferguson told the world he was finally calling it a day as Manchester United manager. In an Old Trafford reign that spanned four decades, Ferguson also won two Champions League titles, five FA Cups and four League Cups, as well as the Cup Winners Cup, Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and Club World Cup. United have not been the same since, winning just one FA Cup since the legendary Scots departure.Bjorn Borg (tennis)From teenage sensation to world No. 1, the Swede became the first male player to win 11 Grand Slam singles titles -- including five straight Wimbledon crowns -- during one of the toughest Open Era periods. Widely considered to be one of the greatest ever players, Borg shocked the world when he called time on his career aged just 26. He attempted a brief comeback during the early 1990s but the less said about that, the better...Rocky Marciano (boxing)The most famous of the handful of world champions who retired undefeated and resisted the temptation of a comeback -- and the only heavyweight world champion to achieve such a feat. The Brockton Blockbuster, who ended Joe Louis career in 1951, first won the world title in 1952 and retained it a further six times before he shocked the world in April 1956, retiring with a perfect record of 49 wins from 49 fights (with 43 knockouts). Aged just 32, the American wanted to spend more time with his family but his life was cut tragically short when he died in a plane crash on the eve of his 46th birthday.Bobby Jones (golf)Way back in 1930, the grandfather of golf became the first and only golfer to win the Grand Slam in the pre-Masters era, capturing the U.ddddddddddddS. Open, Open Championship, U.S. Amateur and Amateur Championship in the same season. He immediately hung up his hickory-shafted clubs, deciding to compete only at The Masters -- a tournament he co-founded but, incidentally, never won.Michael Jordan (NBA)I just feel I dont have anything else, in myself, to prove. With that, Jordan walked away from the Chicago Bulls and the NBA. At the age of 30, the player who had done most to transform not only his franchise, but the league, called it quits, just four months after winning a third successive NBA title. Jordan would return -- and win another three-peat of championships -- but that doesnt alter just how seismic his original announcement was.Barry John (rugby)The pressures of living in a goldfish bowl convinced John to walk away from rugby union in 1972, aged just 27. His retirement came just a year after he had guided the British & Irish Lions to a series win over New Zealand, and he departed as Wales record points scorer. Johns elegant playmaking is still used as a blueprint for fly-half play in the principality.Barry Sanders (NFL)The Detroit Lions running-backs retirement was as much controversial as it was shocking. And it got very messy. Sanders was heavily criticised for retiring two years into a $35.4 million, six-year contract in July 1999. The Lions demanded that Sanders returned $5.5m of the $11m singing on bonus he was given, and sued him when he refused. Sanders was ordered to repay $1.83m -- a sixth of the bonus -- with the remaining bonus to be repaid over each of the three years Sanders had left on the contract provided he stayed retired. He did.ESPNs Alex Perry, Martyn Thomas, Rob Bartlett and Liam Grace contributed to this article. ' ' '
