CARSON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Galaxy has promoted Curt Onalfo to head coach after he led their team in the United Soccer League for three seasons.The team announced his hiring Tuesday. He replaces Bruce Arena, who returned to the U.S. national team after guiding the Galaxy to three MLS Cup titles.The 47-year-old former Galaxy player led the LA Galaxy II to a 41-20-25 record and three consecutive playoff berths, including last years USL Western Conference championship. Onalfo has won an MLS Cup both as a player and a coach.Onalfo has also been an assistant coach for the U.S. mens national team and head coach for Sporting Kansas City and D.C. United. He played for the Galaxy in their inaugural season in 1996 and joined the teams coaching staff in 2011.Galaxy President Chris Klein cited Onalfos intimate understanding of the structure and culture of this club in announcing his hiring.Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Onalfo also played for San Jose and D.C.
