Mason, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Roger Federer earned his 80th career title and remained unbeaten all-time against David Ferrer with a three-set win Sunday in the final of the $3 million Western & Southern Open. Federer, seeded No. 2, won the tournament for a sixth time and became just the third mens player in the Open Era with 80 singles crowns. He clinched his latest title on a challenge after the chair umpire overruled the line judge on a deep hit by Ferrer. The replay showed the ball was just out and Federer celebrated by raising his hands. Federer, 33, fired six aces and broke the sixth-seeded Ferrer three times in the 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 victory. He won the match in 102 minutes and moved to 16-0 against Ferrer since their first meeting in 2003. Sunday marked just the fifth time that the Swiss star lost a set to Ferrer. Federer trails only Jimmy Connors (109) and Ivan Lendl (94) in all-time titles among mens players in the Open Era. Six of his 80 wins have come at this event, with Federer adding to his titles from 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012. Sunday was his 22nd ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown, second all-time to Rafael Nadals 27. It was his third title of the season in eight finals and earned him $638,850.
