Canadas quest to defend gold at Sochi truly begins today with a quarterfinal matchup against Latvia. Listen to the game live on TSN Radio starting at 110am et/80am pt. And listen to Wayne Gretzky speak, as he joins the TSN Radio panel during the pre-game show. Canada will lk for a fast start after three days off. The Latvians promise to play a similarly tight-checking style to Canadas last opponent, Finland, who was able to push their final preliminary round game to overtime before a Drew Doughty goal sealed a 2-1 victory. Doughty leads all Canadians in points with four goals and one assist through three games. He leads all defencemen in points at Sochi and trails just Phil Kessel, Michael Grabner and Alexander Radulov overall. Carey Price once again gets the start in net for Canada after stopping 14 of 15 shots against the Finns. His .943 save percentage is seventh among goalies that have made more than one start at the Olympics. Latvian netminder Edgars Masalskis has posted a .946 mark through three starts and has made more saves than any other Olympic goalie. Coach Mike Babcock once again rearranged his forward lines at practice on Tuesday hoping to ignite his forwards ahead of the playoff round. Pittsburgh Penguins teammates Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz have once again been reunited with Patrice Bergeron on the right side. Meanwhile, Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn has been placed alongside Anaheim Ducks duo Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry to form a menacing power forward trio. Martin St. Louis will dress for todays game after being a healthy scratch against Finland. He replaces Matt Duchene in the lineup and has been held off the score-sheet thus far in the tournament. "The reality is we dress 13 forwards each game," Babcock said. "One guy hardly gets on the ice. Its a hard, hard situation for people that play 22 minutes. Thats the way it is. Youve got to find a way to help out when you get a chance." P.K. Subban is also the odd men out. Dan Hamhuis will be the seventh defenceman, leaving Subban out of the lineup for the third time in four games. He played 11:41 minutes in Canadas 6-0 rout of Austria. "Hes a proud guy. And hes here and he doesnt get to dress," Babcock said of Subban. "Nobody is probably thrilled about that. Those are hard decisions that we make, and in the end theyve got to live it." "That doesnt mean theyve got to like it. But youre here to be a gd pro and a gd teammate and as its not about me and its not him, its about Canada. As long as we all remember that, were fine." Latvia went 0-3 in Group C in the preliminary round, scoring just five goals combined against the Czech Republic, Sweden and Switzerland. The upstart Latvians are guaranteed their best-ever Olympic finish after surprising Switzerland 3-1 in the qualification playoff round. Lauris Darzins led the way for Latvia, scoring a pair against Switzerland, including the game-winner and the empty-netter that sealed the victory. This is Latvias first ever trip to the Olympic quarter-finals, having been eliminated in the preliminary round in 2006 and losing in overtime to the Czech Republic in the 2010 qualification playoffs. Canada and Latvia have met on only one prior occasion at the Olympics, with the Canadians winning an 11-0 blowout at the 1936 Games in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. Latvias best-ever result against Canada at the mens level came at the 1997 IIHF World Championships where they earned a 3-3 draw. Latvia boasts just one NHL player in Buffalo Sabres forward Zemgus Girgensons. However, a number of their players have NHL experience including Oskars Bartulis, Kaspars Daugavins among others. Their most experienced NHL veteran is captain Sandis Ozolinsh, who played 875 career games between 1992-93 and 2007-08. A seven-time NHL All-Star, Ozolinsh was a Norris Trophy finalist in 1996-97 and won a Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 1995-96. "I know Sandis Ozolinsh played for me and helped me get to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final and hes their captain," Babcock said. "Theyre better as a sum than they are as parts." Ray Rice was reinstated from his indefinite suspension Friday for one reason, a true objective arbiter in retired U.S. District Judge Barbara S. Jones heard the appeal. This decision is a victory for a disciplinary process that is fair and transparent, the NFLPA said in a statement after the ruling. This union will always stand up and fight for the due process rights of our players. While we take no pleasure in seeing a decision that confirms what we have been saying about the commissioners office acting arbitrarily, we hope that this will bring the NFL owners to the collective bargaining table to fix a broken process. It wont. Jones, who heard the appeal earlier this month, ruled that Rice did not mislead NFL commissioner Roger Gdell when the running back met with the league on June 16. Gdell initially suspended Rice for two games or violating the NFLs personal-conduct policy over the incident, but later banned him indefinitely following the release of video ftage that sparked public outrage. It lked like double jeopardy on the surface and Jones only buoyed that argument explaining Gdell had no new evidence after handing out the first punishment before bowing to public pressure and arbitrarily changing it. I do not doubt that viewing the video in September evoked horror in commissioner Gdell as it did with the public, Jones said. But this does not change the fact that Rice did not lie or mislead the NFL at the June 16 meeting. Because Rice did not mislead the commissioner and because there were no new facts on which the commissioner could base his increased suspension, I find that the imposition of the indefinite suspension was arbitrary. I therefore vacate the second penalty imposed on Rice. The NFLPA argued the league violated labor laws by increasing Rices punishment after the video surfaced. Gdell spent most of his time under cross-examination by outside players union attorney Jeffrey Kessler. Rice is no less a pariah today and this ruling was strictly a salvo toward Gdell and the NFLs flawed process when it comes to personal-conduct issues. Any failure on the part of the league to understand the level of violence was not due to Rices description of the event, but to the inadequacy of words to convey the seriousness of domestic violence, Jones wrote. That the league did not realize the severity of the conduct without a visual record also speaks to their admitted failure in the past to sanction this type of conduct more severely. Others were far more harsh than Jones in their assessments. Second punishments for the same conduct are unprecedented and not permitted as a matter of basic and fundamental principle, lawyer Peter Ginsberg, who has often tangled with the NFL in court, said. Perhaps now, finally, NFL owners will give real thought to whether the NFL shield should tolerate a leader who fails to lead in important areas like domestic violence and who time and again ignores the Leagues workers due process rights and the right to be treated with fundamental fairness.dddddddddddd. There are many lessons to be learned from this unfortunate event -- Ray (Rice) is well on his way to learning his from this awful event. Time will tell whether the NFL and NFL owners are learning theirs as well. Any hopes that the league got any message were quickly quashed by NFL general counsel Jeff Pash in a memo sent to league executives after the decision. No part of Judge Joness decision questions the Commissioners honesty or integrity, nor his gd faith consideration of the issue when he imposed the indefinite suspension on Mr. Rice, Pash wrote. Nor is there any suggestion that the Commissioner had seen the video from inside the elevator before it became public, or knew of the contents of the video. Nice try Jeff but by explaining Rice told the truth about the incident back in June, Jones plainly contradicts Gdells assessment that the former Ravens star was vague in describing it. And to put it more bluntly, if Rice was telling the truth, Gdell wasnt. Roger Gdell has shown once again that he does not follow the rules in his treatment of players and that his judgment cannot be trusted Ginsberg said. Under his leadership, the NFL ignored for years the need to create a stronger and more constructive program to address domestic abuse. But rather than admitting he had been ignoring the domestic violence issue for years, and had failed to subject past violators to real scrutiny, Commissioner Gdell turned his own failings on Ray by punishing him a second time for an offense about which Commissioner Gdell had been fully and completely aware when he imposed the original suspension. That action threatened to end Rays career. And in so doing, Commissioner Gdell ignored the basic principle that every worker must be treated in a manner consistent with past punishments and in accordance with published procedures. Despite the growing criticism Gdell and the league he lords over remain as deaf as ever, however. The decision has no bearing on the current work on a revised Personal Conduct Policy, nor on the initiatives announced by the Commissioner on August 28 regarding domestic violence and sexual assault, Pash told the leagues executive. Similarly, the decision is limited to Ray Rice and should have no effect on any other pending or prospective disciplinary matters. Take notice of that last statement and lk at who is scheduled to hear the Adrian Peterson appeal, Gdell rubber stamp Harold Henderson. We are confident that the issues addressed by Judge Jones will not be part of future disciplinary decisions of the Commissioner, Pash continued. We will of course review the decision in detail to identify any other aspects that can be addressed within the comprehensive revision of the Personal Conduct Policy that is now underway. The NFL is confident because the only real review of its personal-conduct policy came up with one answer -- stay away from independent minds who reject tortured rational. diesfromchina.com/" target="_blank">Wholesale Hdies NFL Shirts Outlet Jerseys NFL Wholesale Cheap NFL Jerseys Free Shipping Wholesale Jerseys Cheap Cheap NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys Wholesale NFL Jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
